SAS inSchool and Florida Virtual School Enhance Online Learning

CARY, NC, and ORLANDO, FL, (Mar. 4, 2004)—A partnership between Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and SAS inSchool will boost the educational resources available to FLVS teachers and students across the country. The partners will integrate SAS inSchool's award-winning curriculum resources into Florida Virtual School's nationally acclaimed courses, thus enriching interactive learning activities.

"We recognize our students are growing up in an era driven by technology, and we strive to continually upgrade our course content," said Julie Young, FLVS executive director. "Our partnership with SAS inSchool means our teachers have additional resources available to make FLVS courses more engaging for students, while enhancing the educational value. At FLVS, we work to harness the excitement and power of technology for the benefit of education. We believe this partnership will support our goals and help us to continue to serve the needs of students."

The new partnership gives FLVS students and teachers access to Curriculum Pathways®, a Web-based planning tool that English, mathematics, science, social studies and Spanish teachers can use to build lesson plans, as well as to update or locate course materials. The interactive applications of Curriculum Pathways will support FLVS teachers as they promote higher-level thinking skills and in-depth understanding of course materials. The new partnership will also give FLVS students additional opportunities to explore, apply, and analyze core content through interactive multimedia.

"Florida Virtual is the respected leader nationally in virtual schooling," said John Boling, SAS inSchool director. "We are pleased that our resources meet their high expectations for content and use by teachers and students in a virtual environment. As a company committed to education and good corporate citizenship, we're proud to be a partner with FLVS and to make a difference for educators and students in Florida. We will continue to support education in the longstanding tradition of our parent company, SAS, through partnerships with other agencies, such as the Bank of America Foundation, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, and N.C. Wise Owl."

SAS inSchool, a division of SAS, creates Web-based teaching and learning resources for the core subjects in grades 8-14, including English, social studies, science, mathematics and Spanish. SAS inSchool enhances learning by actively engaging students and encouraging insights in ways that textbooks cannot. Curriculum Pathways is available on the Internet by subscription. All SAS inSchool resources are mapped to state and national standards.
