English: Language InterActivities
Overview

In this series of InterActivities, students explore words, sentence structures, and editing conventions in order to improve writing skills and prepare for standardized testing.

A short video prepares students for learning by introducing the topic and its relationship to editing conventions.
Students complete a series of interactive tasks designed to help them edit a reading passage.
Students then read a second passage, identify errors, and refine their editing skills.
Finally, students answer ten multiple-choice questions to assess their knowledge about editing issues.

Standards

Our Language materials map to state standards and to national standards in English language arts as established by the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.

Features

A video prepares students for learning by using a visual metaphor to clarify the central concept.
Interactive click-and-appear tasks enable students to identify key information and practice editing sentences.
Hyperlinked explanations of language concepts and related editing advice are available.
A quiz-answers document can be used by teachers to assess student performance or by students to achieve a better understanding of the answers.
Optional offline writing assignments ask students to write an original paragraph that summarizes the reading passages and demonstrates an understanding of key concepts.
An online Handbook is available as a reference tool.
