Overview
In this series of InterActivities, students are introduced to the culture, themes, and stylistic devices associated with various literary periods and ethnic groups. First, images and questions prepare students for reading. Next, students listen to and study quotations from key literary works. Interpretive aids promote close reading and help students analyze themes and stylistic devices. Finally, students discover and write about these themes and devices in another literary selection.
Standards
Our American Literature materials map to state standards and to national standards in English language arts as established by the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.
